Sanki Planaria is a golf shaft manufacturer situated in Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture. Our work is shaped by constant dialogue with master craftsmen, an ongoing process of trial and error, and a relentless pursuit of perfection, repeated time and time again.

1995 Munenori Arai began playing golf at 16, at a time when the sport was seen as primarily for older men in his hometown of Yokosuka. He was the only golfer in the city. Determined to pursue his passion, Arai enrolled at the prestigious Izawa Golf School, founded by Japanese Tour Champion Toshimitsu Izawa, where he dedicated himself to rigorous training with the goal of becoming a professional golfer.

1998 While pursuing his goal of becoming a professional golfer, Munenori Arai joined his family's 300-year-old company, Sanki Co., Ltd., specializing in precision parts manufacturing. During this time, he gained invaluable experience in the processing and production of precision components. This hands-on training refined his expertise in craftsmanship and precision engineering, shaping his unique approach to golf club design and setting the stage for his future innovations in the industry.

2000 Munenori aspired to become a professional golfer, but when that goal proved unattainable, he made the difficult decision to pursue a different path. He left his father's company and joined a paint manufacturer, where he developed his craft and became a skilled paint artist, mastering the techniques of the trade.

2008 In 2008, Munenori Arai began developing graphite shafts, drawing inspiration from the advanced technology used in fishing rods as the foundation for his golf shafts. Departing from conventional designs, he leveraged his expertise as a paint craftsman to create distinctive visual elements for his shafts. Recognizing a gap in the market for lightweight yet durable shafts, Arai sought materials that could withstand the rigors of expansion and contraction. Through careful material selection and innovation, he successfully developed a player-friendly shaft that combined performance with resilience.

2012 After four years of dedicated research and development, Munenori Arai completed the driver shaft, leading to the launch of the Sanki Planaria shaft. Traditionally, golfers select shafts based on a fitting process tailored to their specific swing. However, the Sanki Planaria shaft stands out with its ability to adapt its flex point based on the golfer's swing. This unique feature allows the shaft's movement to adjust according to head speed and swing type, resulting in improved head speed and ball speed for golfers of all skill levels.

2018 Known for his deep expertise in graphite shafts, Munenori expanded his craftsmanship into steel shaft development, distinguishing them with a unique, hand-decorated finish—a bold departure from the conventional plating used in the industry. His attention to detail and commitment to artistry reflect the brand's dedication to producing premium, one-of-a-kind golf shafts that seamlessly blend quality with aesthetic excellence.

2024 Sanki embarked on its global expansion while also strengthening its presence in the women's market.
